Introduction

Sharp is an autonomous line following robot that ranked the 1st place in UBC Engineering Physcis robot competition in 2023.

In the 2023 ENPH 253 robotic competition with the theme of Mario Kart, two robots would together race to get as many points as possible in no more than 2 minutes.

For each lap, the robots would get 3 points. Each robot could also pick up blocks, each for 1 point. Robots could choose to tape follow or use the Infrared Beacon, jump off the bridge, or take the zipline as shortcuts. Robots had to tell boxes and bombs apart and try to avoid bombs.

Our Achievement

This robot was designed over a course of 6 weeks by a team of 4 UBC Engineering Physics students, Sasan Ghasaei, Mahdi Shakouri Ganjavi, Felipe Garavelli, and William Gibbs. The unique design of this robot allowed it to be the fastest robot in the competition, with a record of 15-second lap time.

The Competition

The competition not only showcased talent and innovation but also garnered recognition from the wider community. A CTV News article highlighted the collective ingenuity and passion defining our program, shedding light on the remarkable efforts of participating teams. It depicted the collaborative spirit, dedication, and the role of such events in fostering a sense of community and innovation. To learn more about the article by CTV News, click here.
